(1) Hugo Naturals uses the scientific name for their ingredients. So instead of "vitamin E" you will see "tocopherol" on their label.

(2) All Hugo Naturals ingredients are vegan: they come from plants. When two plant ingredients are combined or heated together, Hugo lists the scientific name of the result. For example, "Decyl Glucoside" is the result of combining natural sugar from cornstarch (glucose) and fatty alcohols from coconuts (decanol).

(3) Sodium Benzoate can be produced artificially from petroleum or it can be extracted from plants. Hugo uses botanically extracted sodium benzoate. Fruits such as apples, cranberries and plums naturally contain sodium benzoate. Some people do not like sodium benzoate in any form, even when natural. If you do not like sodium benzoate, we suggest buying liquid products (lotion, shampoo, conditioner) from a different maker on our website.
